Fact Sheet: Safe Routes to Schools Talking Points
This fact sheet provides talking points and information to help you achieve your goal of creating safe routes to school in your community (also available in Spanish).
Creating environments that allow children to walk safely to school will improve health outcomes for children, potentially reducing asthma, obesity, and injury rates. Promoting walking to children builds lifelong healthy habits, and normalizes walking as part of the family's lifestyle. Please be certain to check with your local planning department regarding specifics for your jurisdiction. Additional fact sheets on Zoning and Complete Streets are also available in English and Spanish.
Additional resources on Safe Routes to School (fact sheets focused on liability concerns, including protections for volunteers), and California-specific Safe Routes to School fact sheets are also available.
